An eerie crime scene made of machines waits in Dark Trip, the gothic horror escape room from iWorlds, where wicked biomachinery, occult devices and laboratory equipment are the puzzles rather than the decoration. The rooms are interconnected and each carries its own theme, its own fragment of the story and its own lock to pick. Occult medicine is the tool that changes what you can perceive, since the pills reveal hidden objects, invisible messages and interactions that are otherwise unreachable. Hallucinations work as an investigative method, which is also why Steam carries a content note about a protagonist taking pills of unknown origin and about provocative themes. Every room leaves a piece of the case behind, and the sequence you solve them in changes which of the laboratory devices you can trust. iWorlds expects you to double back once an occult remedy has shown you what was hidden in plain sight. Desktop and VR are both supported, through SteamVR and Meta Horizon Link, and the page includes screenshots, a video fragment and the system requirements.

Occult medicine gates the whole route design, because a room you cannot finish sober is not badly built, it is simply waiting for the next dose. Solving these puzzles means accepting that the evidence in front of you may have been manufactured, and the game lets that doubt do narrative work instead of hand waving it away. Two gigabytes of storage and eight gigabytes of memory is a light ask for a title leaning this hard on atmosphere. The rooms do not repeat themselves, each theme carrying its own machine and its own small horror. Nothing asks for fast reflexes, which is why the VR version works just as well from a desk. Version build 26303776 is what currently ships, and its patch notes track the fixes iWorlds made around the VR path.
