Three Super Nintendo caveman adventures arrive in one package, collected in the Joe & Mac Retro Collection from Red Art Studios, published by Red Art Games. The original arcade hit sends you and your companion after a gang of Neanderthals who took the women of the village. The answer is a club, a hammer and whatever else the stage leaves lying around. Congo Caper is the stranger of the three, a high flying romp through temples with a pet dinosaur and a great many monkeys. Lost in the Tropics moves the pair to a seaside setting with new weapons, new enemies and a Tiki Village that has to be defended. All three keep their arcade logic: short screens, tight jumps and bosses with a pattern you can learn if you survive long enough to see it twice. Local co op runs on shared or split screens, so a second player can carry you through the worst stretch, and Remote Play Together covers the friend who never bought anything. Rewind is where the modern value of this compilation sits, since a mistimed jump no longer costs a life; one press steps you back and you take the same gap again with better timing. Savestates let you park progress anywhere at all, which matters in games that never had a generous continue screen, and CRT filtering plus custom frames restyle the picture without touching the hitboxes underneath. Boss Rush is the mode that exists only here, pulling the encounters from all three carts into one gauntlet in sequence, which is a fair test of whether you actually learned the patterns or merely survived them.
