The gameplay supports 1 to 5 players online who must manually swing pickaxes to gather coal and push a heavy mining cart back up to the surface. Communication uses a strict proximity voice chat mechanic meaning your teammates can only hear your warnings when they stand nearby but the blind or fast monsters lurking in the tunnels will also hunt you down if you scream too loudly. You start with basic state issue gear like a gas mask dynamite or a speed boosting vaccine needle then deliver your haul to earn official tickets which serve as the only currency allowed by the state. Between grueling shifts you return to a persistent hub containing your barracks a workshop and a hidden smuggler in a restricted zone where you can trade your tickets for high tier illegal items.
