About The Game

Kernel Hearts is a dynamic action RPG and roguelike hybrid focused on cooperative gameplay, set in a dying world that is slowly drowning in ashes. Players step into the metal shoes of elite android operational units who are tasked with a monumental and dangerous goal: fighting their way through endless hordes of biblical monsters and angelic creatures, scaling the shifting floors of the mythical Tower of Babel, and ultimately dethroning God to save the final remnants of humanity from total extinction. Each run up the randomized tower is a deadly expedition that culminates in an intense boss fight against a celestial domain guardian.

Whenever the squad inevitably falls in battle, the androids' memories are backed up and restored at a laboratory base on the outskirts of the last safe human refuge, allowing players to socialize with unique NPCs, build deep bonds, and spend hard earned rewards on permanent upgrades before heading back into the fray.The core gameplay loop centers around a unique skill chip customization system and the ability to trigger powerful tactical transformations during intense combat. Between runs, players can purchase and install various modification chips into their units' operating systems, fitting within a strict limit of two hundred and fifty six kilobytes, which allows for deep customization of spells, active attacks, and movement patterns.

In battle, you must fluidly mix and match abilities to unleash devastating strike combos on aggressive biblical entities. By harnessing the active energy of the tower to cleanse yourself of the ever-present Heavenly Curse, your android character can briefly unlock her true magical girl form, gaining access to annihilating ultimate attacks that easily wipe out nearby threats. The entire experience is fully playable either solo or in online co-op with up to four friends, letting the team combine and synergize different character skills to become the ultimate fighting force.
