About The Game

The game KARJALA is a dark psychological first person horror adventure based on a sci fi short story about the Karelian anomaly. The plot revolves around a hot tempered private of the Soviet army who gets sent through a secret portal after a conflict with his officer. This portal transports the main character into a mysterious and terrifying space that resembles the endless basements and corridors of the Backrooms. Here the soldier must not only find the missing scientists but also survive in the dense Karelian forests and Soviet settings which are filled with a mystical atmosphere and creepy secrets of the past.

The gameplay is completely focused on exploring dark locations, solving complex puzzles, and constantly fighting for survival. The main mechanic of the game is built around stealth and attentiveness because dangerous otherworldly creatures are hunting the hero around every corner. You will have to constantly hide, conserve rare ammunition, and carefully listen to every suspicious sound or approaching footsteps. Of particular interest is the visual style which is stylized as old videotapes with a characteristic screen aspect ratio and static noise, creating a strong sense of anxiety and total immersion in horror.
