The streets of an alternate 1950s Kyiv lie silent, and almost nobody is left to walk them. Digital Spray Studios built that dead city for a cult shooter years ago, and the Absolute Edition brings the entire campaign back with a long list of repairs. You Are Empty Absolute Edition drops one man into the emptiness while monsters born from propaganda, science and madness crawl out of basements and factories. Collective farms, metro tunnels, an opera house, rooftops and secret laboratories all wait to be crossed, and every location hides another piece of what happened to the population. The cause of the catastrophe waits in those rooms, and the campaign asks you to set things right instead of simply running for the exit. Before you commit, the page lists system requirements, screenshots and gameplay videos, so the mood and the look are easy to judge from the outside.

The current version is less about new content and more about making an old engine behave. Every modern widescreen resolution is supported now, and the HUD, menus, weapons and cutscenes stop stretching at odd aspect ratios. A field of view slider, an optional frame limiter, up to 8x MSAA and 16x anisotropic filtering fill out the display options, while loading times dropped by roughly eight times. The sprint option is the most visible change for new players, because the original walk speed was always slow; the patch notes admit that some encounters were never paced for a running hero. Controller support comes with three presets, Molotovs were given a longer minimum throw so bottles no longer explode at your feet, and the HUD can fade out on its own when you stop shooting. Camera bobbing can also be reduced, and the old jitter is gone. Achievements and trading cards come with the Steam release, and the difficulty can be lowered when a late chapter turns unfair. You can also save at any moment, which softens the longer descents into the metro.
