The Headlands is a farming strategy game about revitalizing a small agricultural holding caught between the legacy of the Soviet era and the independent rural life of the early 2000s. Players start with an old tractor and a plot of abandoned land, gradually breathing new life back into the farm. Managing fields, crops, machinery, and trade requires balancing your own resources against market conditions, yet the game never forces you to rush. The Headlands is perfect for those who want to enjoy a relaxed experience tending to the land, maintaining machinery, and developing a small farm at their own pace.

Restoration begins with working the land and gradually expanding the farm's capabilities. Players decide the order of tasks, choose the right moments to acquire new equipment, and manage fuel and harvested grain wisely. Crop sales depend on market prices that can fluctuate at inconvenient times, requiring players to consider not just the volume of grain produced but also the timing of its sale. This approach makes management decisions a key part of the game, while the absence of strict deadlines allows you to handle daily chores calmly without turning farm work into a race against the clock.

Machinery plays a special role, designed to evoke the authentic atmosphere of a traditional village. The tractors look as though they have spent years working the fields; their worn paint, engine mechanics, and distinctive sounds recall the familiar farm equipment of yesteryear. An experienced mechanic assists the player, acting as both a mentor and a farmhand. Beyond routine repairs and advice, he can build unique custom vehicles, and fulfilling contracts for neighbors unlocks new opportunities. Over time, the small holding gains momentum, evolving into a thriving, self sufficient farm.
