About The Game

KYOTO XANADU the Blooming Phantom is an action RPG developed by Nihon Falcom, set in an alternate-modern Japan where Kyoto is the capital. You play as Kamiya Rei, a transfer student who enrolls at Hirasaka Academy after gaining the ability to fight monsters in Xanadu a dangerous otherworldly labyrinth that he and other chosen ones must explore and conquer. The game features a unique combat system that alternates between classic 2D side scrolling play and intense 3D arena battles triggered by entering special gates within the labyrinth. You can upgrade your Soul Device weapon with points earned through exploration and school activities, unlocking new abilities and special attacks, while Guardian Cards collected in battle grant elemental enchantments and ranged attack capabilities.

Beyond dungeon crawling, you'll immerse yourself in typical school life: before classes, you'll lay down Action Cards to boost stats and improve relationships, and after classes, you'll explore Kyoto's tourist attractions and shopping districts. These daily life scenes include character dialogue, side quests, and social activities that flesh out the game's world and reveal the characters' personalities. This combination of dungeon exploration, battle system customization, and school simulation creates a gameplay loop that alternates between action-packed otherworldly encounters and relaxing moments dedicated to strengthening relationships. The dual-view combat system and blend of a modern Japanese setting with supernatural elements give the game a distinctive flavor within the action RPG genre.
