About The Game

Spiritus Astrum is an open world sci fi survival RPG from Phoenix Game Development, a persistent sandbox created by a single passionate developer. The name translates as Spirit of the Stars, and the game lives up to it: the universe is infinite and procedurally generated, with realistically scaled solar systems, stellar phenomena and planets that players can land on and explore at leisure. Spaceships, vehicles and tools support a self paced mix of flying, crafting and building across an endless frontier. The project is currently in Early Access, which means an early beta state with bugs that the community helps to sort out over time. Randomized NPCs, quests, enemies and resources keep every session different and give the world a sense of life that scripted campaigns rarely reach. The scope is unusual for a one man project, and the developer openly treats feedback as part of the design process, posting regular updates about systems, fixes and the road ahead.

The gameplay is built around emergent scenarios and a cooperative roleplaying atmosphere. Combat is optional, and diplomacy, trading and stealth often open safer paths, while direct conflict between players is not allowed, so groups of explorers can work together without fear of betrayal. Characters are customized with appearance, traits and a background, from trader and diplomat to explorer or war veteran. A life simulation layer asks players to eat, drink and sleep, and the dynamic skill system makes training one skill too hard reduce others, which keeps character progression honest and balanced. Among the most interesting features are the unrestricted exploration of an infinite galaxy, the survival needs layered on top of roleplaying freedom and the long term growth of a persistent multiplayer world shaped by its community. Patience is part of the deal, and the game openly rewards players who report problems instead of hiding them. For a sandbox of this scale the bar for entry stays refreshingly low.
