Behaviour Interactive unveiled a new trailer for Serious Sam Shatterverse at the Future Games Show at Gamescom 2026. This dynamic co-op shooter with roguelite elements returns as Sam "Serious" Stone, this time taking the hero on a journey through the multiverse where he will encounter alternate versions of himself. According to the plot, the machinations of the Über Mental led to the destruction of the multiverse, opening up access between different worlds. As a result, the main Sam Stone is given the opportunity to team up with other representatives of the Serious Program.

Up to five players can participate in the co op experience, with each player choosing their own version of the hero with their own abilities. Orphan Sam can open portals with circular saws that literally cut through crowds of enemies. Retro Sam relies on tactics and can set decoys to distract enemies. Alien Sam has four arms, allowing him to simultaneously wield four weapons, turning into a veritable walking gun emplacement. The diversity of alternate Sams is intended to be one of the key features of Shatterverse. Players will select suitable characters and combine their abilities while fighting their way through Mental's numerous armies. Their arsenal will feature the series' familiar array of devastating weapons, from high caliber pistols and miniguns to more advanced weaponry.

At the same time, the game's structure differs significantly from the classic Serious Sam titles. Each playthrough revolves around a journey through the multiverse, during which players collect power-ups and receive various bonuses. Additional modifiers allow players to change the conditions of a specific run, adding an element of unpredictability and forcing a fresh approach to familiar battles. The main goal is to accumulate enough power-ups to defeat Mental's five lieutenants in sequence. The developers emphasize that character death doesn't mean the end of the adventure, which is perfectly in line with the project's roguelite structure.

In its approach, Serious Sam: Shatterverse feels like an attempt to translate the familiar series formula into a more modern co-op format. Non-stop gunplay, massive enemy hordes, a variety of weapons, and multiple Sam variants should provide the game with the same arcade-style pace the franchise has been known for for years.
