About The Game

Kozyrev Horrors is a sci-fi horror simulation from Catsprout, inspired by the Kozyrev Mirror experiments of 1990. Russian scientists used the mirrors to test extra-sensory perception, and the participants reported disturbing encounters with entities called The Observers. The game takes that legend and builds a short, chilling story around it.

You play as Irina, a scientist searching for answers. Her friend Viktor disappeared during a journey into the mirrors and never woke up, falling into a coma instead. To find out what happened, Irina steps into the mirrors herself and enters a liminal space that looks like her old laboratory, yet behaves like somewhere else entirely. The same corridors, the same rooms, and none of the safety that comes with them.

The place is quiet, and the quiet is the threat. Sudden movements and noises can attract an unknown presence that hides in the darkness, so every room asks for caution. The mirrors themselves induce strange effects: visions of symbols, beings of light, and drifting orbs of energy. Through it all, The Observers keep their distance and watch, and the game leans on that feeling of being watched rather than on constant action.

Progress comes through investigation. Documents and notes left behind describe the experiments and the fate of the other psychonauts, and the player pieces the tragedy together one file at a time. Every record adds another layer to what the mirrors really do to a human mind, and every step deeper into the liminal laboratory brings Irina closer to Viktor's fate. The escape route exists, but finding it means understanding where you are before the place understands you.

Kozyrev Horrors came out on Steam on September 19, 2024. It is a compact single-player experience, built for one dark evening and a pair of headphones, and it leaves its biggest questions hanging in the air long after the ending.
