The simulation game KOTAMON comes from KotaMota Games and is published by Polnoch, and its full title already tells you the premise. When the hero's sister finds a super-rare card in her cereal box, the value of collectible cards suddenly shoots up. The response is practical: become a garbage man, sift through the dump, find the whole collection, and earn a small fortune along the way.
The pace is deliberately laid-back. Nobody rushes you, watches your every step, or criticizes what you do. You can meditatively sift through garbage looking for interesting things, or simply run around with a trash bag and enjoy the mess. There is a satisfying rhythm to the work: grab a bag, scan the pile, and pull out anything that looks valuable. Your dump site, your rules. It is the kind of game that works as a quiet background activity or a focused collecting session.
The heart of the loop is the hunt for cards. Dozens of collectible cards with hand-drawn illustrations wait in the trash, and completing sets of different colors earns rewards. Luck plays a role too: an unopened cereal box can hide a super-rare foil card inside. Cards found in the dump are often crumpled, damaged, or torn into pieces, but you can mend them or swap them for better ones, and a card in good condition sells for much more.
The garbage holds more than cards. Hidden treasures thrown away by accident are scattered across the site, and the owner pays well for each find. Upgrades turn you into a faster, stronger, more efficient trash-clearing machine, so the piles that once took minutes start to fall in seconds. The deeper you dig, the more the dump reveals, and every cleared pile opens up fresh ground to search.
KOTAMON was released on Steam on August 20, 2026. It is a cozy, low-pressure simulation for collectors at heart and anyone who finds a little treasure hunt relaxing.
