About The Game

The action RPG Grim Trials is a heavy metal roguelite developed by Glory Jam and published by Soft Source. Players take on the role of Avelin, a young woman who met an untimely end and found herself recruited as one of Death's many Reapers. To become a full-fledged Reaper and see her still-living love once again, she must hunt down impure souls, face her demons, and fight through an underworld of her own making.

The battles play out on endless hex-grid arenas filled with monsters, traps, and sinful souls, with seven sacrilegious bosses waiting at the end of the road. Combat rewards clever use of dual-wielded weapons: scythes and crossbows work together, and mastering both is the way to maximize damage. Powerful Blessings from the Gods of Death add another layer to every encounter.

The spoils of battle are the tools of the trade. Materials gathered from the field go back to the mentors in the arcane arts, who help craft new weapons, armor, and consumables of growing power. At the start of every run, an expansive skill tree sets the direction of the build, and the randomized Blessings found along the way sharpen it further. Every reaper carves a different path, and mixing crafted gear with skills keeps each attempt distinct.

Between runs the Academy serves as home and training ground. It was built to arm and instruct Death's Reapers, and its halls hold mentors, quests, and the stories of the dead. Relationships with fellow Reapers unlock advice, knowledge, and support in battle. Death is not the end here; it is a coming-of-age story told in the afterlife.

Grim Trials was released on Steam on August 19, 2026. Every fall in battle keeps the earned experience and materials, so Avelin can live, fight, die, and live again until the promise is kept.
