About The Game

Luminary is an open world Hack and Slash and Action RPG developed and published by Refractive Entertainment. The player controls a warrior of light in a dark fantasy world, learning an unusual form of magic to push back the forces of darkness. The game plays from a third person camera and belongs to the open world ARPG family.

Movement around the world is free and physical. The hero can climb any surface, swim, slide, scramble over ledges, jump and scale cliffs, which makes exploration feel closer to an adventure title than a classic action RPG. Cities, forests and dungeons connect across the map, and the traversal systems open shortcuts that would stay hidden without climbing. The vertical freedom also changes the pace of quests, since most routes can be approached from several directions.

Combat runs in real time. Attacks from enemies require quick reactions, and the fighter relies on a set of skills that covers melee, ranged, magic, blocking, dodging and parrying. Bosses are large and dangerous, and each fight asks the player to combine several defensive tools at once. Loot found on the way brings weapons, armor and accessory slots into the build.

The world can be walked with up to four players in co-op. Parties move through locations together, hunt monsters and face giant bosses for valuable treasure. Progression stays personal, so each member can tune their own build while the group covers different roles in battle.

Large enemies named Dreadnoughts spawn in random places across the map. Hunting them gives rewards and combat experience, and their influence weakens the local bosses. The protagonist also gets character customization options that cover appearance, emotions and movement. Luminary connects dark fantasy atmosphere with responsive action, and the open world keeps the hunting grounds varied for every group that enters them.
