In the year 1600, the navigator William Adams was supposed to become the first European granted the title of samurai. In Expeditions Samurai, that history takes a different turn. This sweeping RPG from Campfire Cabal, published by THQ Nordic, lets you beat Adams to Japan aboard the Dutch frigate De Albatros and write your own path through real historical events.

You arrive as the newly elected leader of a motley crew of privateers and are quickly swept into the civil conflict shaping the country. The story branches constantly, and life or death choices arrive at every turn. Even small decisions can have far reaching consequences for you, your crew and the people of Japan, so no two journeys through the period feel the same. The character you create is yours to define, from background to the choices that carry the plot forward.

Your companions give the journey its character. A group of eight followers carries distinct personalities and personal quests, and the relationships with them can grow into alliances, rivalries or romance. They can even argue with you over dialogue choices, and coordinating silent eliminations with them adds a tactical layer to conversations with steel.

Combat blends turn based planning with simultaneous execution. You can move quietly, use distractions like firecrackers and split your squad in real time to ambush superior forces. The arsenal pairs pirate muskets with traditional Japanese katanas, and settlement building, equipment crafting and deep character customization round out the campaign.

For players of historical role playing games, the release offers a vivid cast, an intricate narrative and a version of Japan where your presence changes the record. Campfire Cabal delivers a journey where history is something you participate in rather than read about, and the length of the campaign gives that participation room to breathe. Every province holds another choice.
