About The Game

The Mermaid Mask is a story-driven adventure game about the investigation into the death of the captain of a rare submarine off an abandoned fishing town on a icy coast. Abandoned houses line the shoreline, and dark waters fill the bay, where the body of the vessel's captain is found. Locals say it resembles no known submarine. The investigation begins with an inspection of the pier and old workshops, retrieving voyage logs and hull diagrams, collecting testimony from a few witnesses, and noting oddities in the craft's design. The town retains traces of its former trade, but now it lives on rumors and the occasional flickering lights in windows.

The investigation is plagued by conflicting theories, each changing the direction of the search. Some insist the captain isn't dead and is using the submarine as a time-traveling device, making his death appear like a substitution. Others call him a vampire and link the commander's fate to a curse that keeps him trapped in the ocean depths, forcing him to return to a single route. The player verifies these stories against facts, compares findings, searches for signs of navigational tampering, and determines who may have accessed the sub before the murder.

The action then moves underwater, where the submarine's corridors lead to sealed compartments, and the instruments continue to operate on an incomprehensible schedule. The player opens hatches, restores power, reads the crew's logs, and traces the chain of events that connects the town, the captain, and the strange ship. As they progress, they discover points where reality diverges from conventional logic and decide what to consider evidence and what to leave as legend.

The final part of the synopsis connects the motives for the murder and the nature of the submarine. The player uncovers the true mechanics of the rumors, determines the role of time and the curse in the captain's fate, and chooses how to conclude the story at the shore: close the case as a crime, confirm the impossible, or leave part of the truth in the depths, along with the submarine's route, which once again disappears beneath the black waters.
