The Chinese are known in the public consciousness for their love of counterfeiting and copying everything cars, appliances, toys, video games, and so on. Here is a tricky question: what if they manage to create a relatively original (albeit inspired by The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild) and, at the same time, an extremely popular game worldwide that generates millions of dollars in revenue? That's right, there will be millions of Chinese Genshin Impact clones. Wuthering Waves is another such copy, but it's a very diligent and ambitious one, and its creators intended, if not to dethrone the HoYoverse game, then at least to rank somewhere near it.

The free to play gacha from the Chinese company Kuro Games made a splash during beta testing and amassed over 30 million pre-orders. And just as loudly, it nearly collapsed immediately after release due to numerous technical issues in the first couple of days. But it didn't implode in just one week, the mobile version of Wuthering Waves earned over $10 million. But does that mean the game is doing well? I've written about several Genshin Impact clones, but only with Wuthering Waves have I found myself completely stumped. Almost everything is identical, including leveling, gacha mechanics, cooking, even the interface and fonts. Is this another example of theft, similar to what we saw in Arena Breakout: Infinite, whose developers naturally, the Chinese MoreFun Studios were accused of stealing Escape from Tarkovs code? There are beautiful anime girls in interesting poses, but there's no official Russian localization yet. Even in the image, which at first glance is identical and fits the definition of "anime cuteness in the Genshin style. But if you run a HoYoverse game alongside it, you'll immediately see that Genshin has brighter, more vibrant graphics, creating the atmosphere of a children's fairy tale. Wuthering Waves, on the other hand, has a more subdued and sometimes even dark color scheme a more mature atmosphere, comparable to Honkai Star Rail, another super-popular gacha from HoYoverse.
