About The Game
Yokus Island Express — is an indie arcade game of the highest echelon, where the simplest and most understandable gameplay is intelligently combined with if not innovative, but polished graphics. The game is not a traditional typical, if you will platformer in the classic sense. The developers from Villa Gorilla managed to cross a two-dimensional adventure with pinball, rolling out an absolutely amazing and, importantly, unique product in the gaming industry. According to the authors' idea, the main character in this story is a dung beetle named Yoku. Despite its belonging to such an unpopular species of insects, this small beetle with antennae does not repel at all.He is sweet, good-natured and sympathetic. The development of the plot begins from the moment when the protagonist finds himself on the island of Mokumana. He came here in order to become a postman, but fate decrees a little differently. At some point, something strange happens, and Yoku becomes the only one who can save the island and its inhabitants. By the type of gameplay, Yoku’s Island Express belongs to the so-called genre of metroidvania, where a huge world is initially open for free exploration, with the only amendment that some places on the map are closed until a certain moment.
To get into new parts of the location, the game character must find a key or get a new skill that will help overcome an obstacle on the way. Yokus direct control is typical, as for a regular platformer. The player can control the bug entrusted to him, moving in all four directions in the literal sense. However, there is one caveat: the main character cannot jump, so he uses flippers (pinball blades) to move vertically.
