Chicory A Colorful Tale — is an adventure game enriched with metroidvania elements. The title was developed by the independent studio Dumb and Fat Games, founded by Greg Lobanov, whose portfolio includes the warmly received Wandersong. This game was created thanks to, among other things, a successful Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign. Chicory A Colorful Tale takes us on a journey through the province of Picnic, a fantastic country inhabited exclusively by animals whose names are borrowed from the names of food. When the hare artist named Chicory, who made sure this place is a feast of colors, disappears without a trace, her biggest fan, a dog named Pizza, sets out in search. Besides sympathy for her, the protagonist has another reason for this on the outskirts of the Picnic Prowince, a dark forest arose that absorbed all the colors and caused a lot of problems for its inhabitants. So our protégé has no choice but to grab the magic brush of Chicory and try to restore the old order, trying to find his idol.Chicory A Colorful Tale takes place from a bird’s eye view. The main element of the game is the tasks ordered by the inhabitants of the picturesque province of Picnic. While some missions move the storyline forward, others are completely optional, although we get useful rewards for completing them. The game world consists of both idyllic outdoor areas and several towns. During the game, we constantly rely on the magic Chicory brush. With its help, we not only restore the earth to its previous color, but also solve environmental puzzles so that we can get to places inaccessible by other means. However, we don’t immediately get access to all the brush’s features; most of its capabilities must be unlocked by finding the corresponding improvements, the first of which is fluorescent paint, indispensable when traveling through dark tunnels. In addition, styles that give our paintings the desired shape and affect the texture of the paint are waiting in the wings. This is complemented by the protagonist’s carefully hidden clothes, as well as furniture and plants that we can then decorate with his house and garden.
