AeternoBlade — is an arcade game with RPG elements. The game was developed by a small independent studio, Corecell Technology. The game represents the fourth console project of this developer the previous ones, WickedMonster Blast and B-Units Build-It and Crazy Strike Bowling were intended for kids and were released on Wii, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo DS. AeternoBlade was originally released in 2014 on the Nintendo 3DS and PS Vita consoles. The version for newer devices does not differ significantly from the original and has only slightly improved graphic design. The game is implemented in the popular Metroidvania genre.The main character of AeternoBlade is a young warrior named Freyja who fights the demonic Beladim, who is responsible for the destruction of her hometown. At the beginning of the game, the main character stands face to face with his opponent and dies at his hand. However, thanks to the magical power of her sword, she revives after a few days, so she can better prepare for the final battle and use the potential hidden in the blade. The plot is based on popular stories and, despite a few twists and turns, will not surprise fans of fantastic stories.
This means we are dealing with a 2.5D side-scrolling game that represents a vast map that we explore, defeating opponents and gaining treasures and new skills that open up new locations. The combat system is simple and based on the use of several types of attacks and simple combos. We can jump and crouch to avoid attacks. Defeated enemies leave the colored spheres, which give various bonuses. The yellow ones act as experience points, for which we buy new abilities, the red ones restore health, blue magic, and the green ones load a special attack strip, allowing us to use abilities to stop or change the time.
We can also change the character by placing relics in his equipment, which give passive bonuses for attack or defense. AeternoBlade’s graphics and music are not top notch. While the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch versions have improved textures and character models, as well as the environment by adding new details, the game still falls short of current standards.
