The Wolf Among Us Remastered is an episodic adventure game based on the Fables comic book universe, which depicts the lives of fairy tale creatures forced to adapt to an existence among humans. These Fables have established their own community, Fabletown, in the heart of a bustling New York City. Strict rules forbid them from revealing their magical nature or true forms; to comply, they must regularly purchase glamours charms that grant them a human appearance. Maintaining order and enforcing these laws is the responsibility of the sheriff, Bigby Wolf a man with a dark past. Following the brutal murder of one of his own kind, Bigby begins an investigation, drawing him into a dangerous and convoluted game.

The Wolf Among Us functions as a visual novel, incorporating point and click mechanics for interacting with the environment, alongside quick-time events (QTEs) during action sequences. Players must explore locations, gather clues, and engage with non-player characters (NPCs) by choosing from various dialogue options and actions. A key feature of the game is that the consequences of a player's decisions ripple throughout the current episode and those that follow. Relationships with NPCs also evolve based on the protagonist's behavior; for instance, players can often choose different approaches to achieve a goal such as intimidating or beating an informant, or opting for a more peaceful, diplomatic route. At the end of each episode, players can see how their own choices and playstyle compare to those of other players. The story is presented in a neon-noir style, complemented by a calm yet somber electronic soundtrack.
