About The Game

Blades and Battles is a retro brawler action game from QUByte Interactive, built as a love letter to the golden age of arcade fighters. The fantasy world draws on the legends of King Arthur, and the campaign tells the adventures that precede the formation of the Round Table. The player wields a sword as Arthur or Lancelot, and each hero offers special abilities, a distinct fighting style and devastating special attacks. Hordes of enemies stand between the knights and their destiny, from common soldiers to colossal bosses that test every combo in the arsenal. Battles are presented in stylized 2.5D visuals, where detailed 3D art passes through a pixelated filter that blends the modern with the nostalgic. The result feels like a cartridge classic that learned a few new tricks along the way. The presentation stays bright and readable even in the busiest fights, and the soundtrack keeps the energy of a loud arcade hall from the first minute.

The gameplay follows the straightforward spirit of the genre: walk forward, smash enemy waves with combos and spells, and unleash the special attacks when the crowd gets too thick. Two heroes with their own weapons and moves encourage replaying the campaign from a different angle, and mastering the timing of each strike is the key to surviving the longer stages. A local co op mode lets a friend join as the second knight, and the developers recommend a joystick for cooperative play. The mix of pixel flavored 3D environments, cinematic camera work and simple but tight combat makes it a fitting tribute for a new generation of knights and indie game fans. Among the most interesting features are the two hero campaigns, the giant boss encounters, the co op route through the story and the faithful recreation of the 90s arcade mood. The controls stay simple on purpose, so anyone who remembers feeding coins into a cabinet will feel at home within minutes.
