About The Game

Papercraft Tactics is a strategy roguelike about a living backpack, developed by the independent studio AGE Zero. Instead of commanding armies, the player arranges swords, potions, and trinkets inside a grid inventory, and those items battle on their own once the fight begins. The whole adventure is presented in a warm paper theater style with cut out characters, stage flat scenery, and a subtle handmade mood that makes even tense battles feel like a cozy evening show. Each run is a fresh sequence of rooms, drafts, treasures, and bosses, and the goal sounds simple to state yet proves genuinely hard to master, because a tidy layout is the difference between victory and a pile of confetti.

The gameplay turns packing into the main weapon. Items are not simply equipped, they are wired, so a sword placed next to a potion feeds from it, a wand pumps power into a shield, and rotating gear connects green inputs to yellow outputs for adjacency bonuses. When a turn starts the backpack comes alive, links fire, effects cascade, and enemies quickly learn to fear a tidy layout. Between rounds the player drafts new items marked with tags like elemental, heavy, fragile, scaling, and mimic, visits the shop, and rearranges everything into ever bigger chains. During fights a handful of clutch cards can tilt the moment, doubling a hit, purging a harmful effect, or forcing a trigger right now. Semi automatic turn based combat keeps the pressure low while planning stays deep, and the true joy lies in building a machine that plays itself, then nudging it at exactly the right second. Boss encounters punctuate every run with puzzles of their own, demanding layouts tuned to one specific threat instead of a universal answer, and the draft between rounds means no two builds ever look the same as the one before.
