About The Game

Donutal is a science fiction point and click adventure with visual novel and simulation elements, published by Arc System Works. The story opens with a cold sleep that ended far too late: the hero awakens in the year 2206 to find that the International Space Station has become the International Space Port, a gateway through which alien visitors arrive at Earth. The problems humanity failed to solve in the twenty first century have spiraled out of control, and the planet now lives under pressures nobody planned for. Crushed by a massive and completely unexplained debt, the protagonist is forced into a job that was never requested: Chief Extraterrestrial Counselor. The task sounds almost simple, figure out who among the visitors is an ally and who hides hostile intent, but a single wrong call could mean the destruction of Earth.

The gameplay revolves around the daily work of the Chief Extraterrestrial Counselor, where conversation is the main instrument and judgment is the main weapon. Alien visitors arrive through the space port with requests, disputes and secrets, and the player studies each case, talks to the parties involved and pronounces a verdict that shapes relations between Earth and its guests. Point and click exploration of the station and dialogue driven visual novel scenes carry the story between hearings, while the simulation layer of the enormous personal debt keeps the pressure on every decision, because the counselor is not only defending the planet but also working off a bill nobody can explain. Consequences accumulate: judgments decide trust, trust decides information, and information decides whether hostile plans are uncovered in time or too late. Multiple outcomes invite the player to revisit the year 2206 and weigh the scales differently, and the mixture of bureaucracy, humor and cosmic stakes gives the adventure its distinct flavor. No pressure though, right.
