The first chapter of Ventreville A Cure for Sorrow carries the title A Tale of Tall Men, and it opens a coming of age story in an industrial fantasy world. The text based point and click adventure comes from developer and publisher Spicy Bread Productions LLC.

At its center stands Orven, an eighteen year old who seems to have everything worth having: his hero, his city, and his ideals. The hero of his eyes is the esteemed Ret Avidine, and Orven looks up to him as the chapter opens. But when Ret's project fails, the ground shifts under the young man's feet, and he must step into adulthood without the ground rules he grew up with.

What follows is a run of difficult decisions. Orven moves through a punishing healthcare system that pits his welfare against his goodness, and every step asks what he is willing to give up. There are no easy answers here, and the game refuses to soften the cost of doing the right thing. The weight of these moments lands directly on the player, whose choices decide whether his hope can break through the pervasive smog.

The presentation stays close to the written word. Scenes unfold through text and dialogue inside a city shaped by industry, and the point and click structure moves the player from one heavy situation to the next. The tone is sincere and unhurried, more interested in people than in spectacle.

The city itself acts like a second character. Industry marks every street, and the smog that hangs over the rooftops is both scenery and symbol. As Orven grows, the player learns the place through his eyes.
