Creating a game that will scare you and make you think actively is not an easy task. But a small team Man the Barricades Ltd decided to take on this challenge and in 2026 released their new game called Shellshock. We are presented with a very interesting mix of several genres where adventure meets with intelligent simulation and psychological horror. The game immediately makes it clear that no one will lead you by the hand or show you the right direction with bright arrows. You are left completely alone in a large unknown complex and have to find answers to all questions on your own. This approach makes the gameplay very adult and serious because you feel responsible for your every move.

Exploring the environment is the basis of your survival. You will move very slowly through dark rooms and constantly look for things that can help you move forward. The game offers you many interesting situations where the puzzle is not just an artificial obstacle but a logical part of this world. To open a massive door, you will first have to find a way to apply electricity to it, then repair the wiring and only then enter the correct code that you found in the security office. Thanks to the elements of simulation, all these actions feel very natural and realistic. You literally turn valves with your own hands, press switches and check the operability of various devices.

The atmosphere of fear here is built extremely subtly. Instead of throwing crowds of enemies at you, the game simply plays with your imagination. You constantly hear some incomprehensible sounds, see strange movements out of the corner of your eye and can never be sure whether you are really alone in this large building. This horror works much better than open conflicts because the constant expectation of danger exhausts the nervous system much more. When you are standing in a dark room and trying to quickly solve another logical problem and heavy footsteps are heard somewhere nearby, the adrenaline level is simply over the top.

The Shellshock project is perfect for those people who appreciate the atmosphere and deep meaning in video games. There is no place for haste or thoughtless actions. This is a game that requires patience, attentiveness and willingness to immerse yourself in a very unfriendly but incredibly interesting world. If you want to test your endurance and find out how well your brain works in stressful situations, then you should definitely try this game. It will give you a few very tense but really cool evenings in front of the monitor.
