Yokai Art 2 Tales of the Nine Tails is a mystical strategy game that seamlessly blends roguelite mechanics and tactical tower defense. The game takes place in a world inspired by Chinese folklore and Japanese yokai. Players navigate a hexagonal map filled with various nodes, including battles, treasure chests, and story events that strengthen their party. Battles take place on a chessboard-like field, where they must carefully position their units to repel attacks from mythical creatures. The combat system also includes a unique card fusion mechanic to enhance the effectiveness of their allies.

The storyline follows Hiro and his companions on a journey to the Land of Dragons. The quest is prompted by a mysterious calling felt by Sanbi, one of the protagonist's companions and a nine-tailed fox. In Yokai Art 2, players must constantly improve their powers to achieve success, using various gameplay mechanics.
