The virtual island universe, meticulously recreated based on historical topographic models from the last century, is completely open for free exploration. By launching Thomas and Friends: Wonders of Sodor, railway enthusiasts can freely navigate the environments, piloting locomotives themselves or enjoying a ride from the passenger seat. Exploring the surrounding area will inevitably lead travelers to the famous windmills, bustling Knapford station, and the massive Tidmouth depot. Careful exploration of the locations is rewarded with hidden collectible artifacts, and the built-in photo mode allows you to instantly capture the picturesque industrial landscapes. A special continuous workday format offers the chance to experience a full shift as any chosen character, following the stationmaster's orders.

The extensive story campaign consists of eight standalone interactive episodes, accompanied by the expressive voiceover of narrator Mark Moraghan. The narrative threads detail the tense confrontation between Thomas and Gordon, as well as the epic racing duel with Bertie the Bus. Taking control of Percy, Emily, Diesel, or James, the red tender engine, you'll navigate steep hillsides and safely deliver important express travelers to Vicarstown. Working on the Central Line involves careful handling of the signature coaches, Annie and Clarabel, which require a smooth ride on the winding sections of track. Successfully completed missions gradually reveal the unique behavioral traits of the mechanical inhabitants of this amazing transport hub.
