Set in Calradia, a land torn apart by constant warfare, Mount and Blade Warband from TaleWorlds Entertainment is an action role playing game about carving power out of chaos. You begin as a nobody in a hostile world, and the path upward runs through steel: assemble a band of hardened warriors, lead your men into battle, expand your realm and, if your nerve holds, claim the throne of Calradia. The original release dates back to March 31 2010, and this edition includes all DLC, which makes it the complete version of the classic. Between the humble start and the royal finish lies a long campaign of battles, ambition and careful growth, where every victory in the field slowly turns into influence over the land. TaleWorlds built the whole game around that climb, and the climb still works. Few games make the rise from lone sword to crowned head feel this earned.

The gameplay blends personal combat with the larger work of ruling. You fight in the thick of battle yourself while your hardened warriors follow you into the fray, and the outcome of each engagement feeds directly into your standing. Assembling a band of hardened warriors and leading them well forms the daily rhythm, and success on the battlefield lets you expand your realm until the old powers start treating you as an equal. Combat rewards timing, positioning and reading your opponent rather than mindless swinging, and commanding your men adds a tactical layer on top of the fighting. Numbers matter, but the terrain and the moment of the charge matter more, so a smaller force led well can carry the day against a bigger one. Because the land is torn apart by constant warfare, there is always a front to fight on and always something to gain or lose. With all DLC included, this edition is the complete way to march a lone adventurer to the throne of Calradia, and the road is different every time you walk it.
