Contra Spem Spero — the game immerses the player in a disturbing, almost tangible world where reality blurs and the line between the human and the otherworldly becomes elusive. The plot begins with a seemingly banal situation: your car suddenly stalls on a deserted road in the middle of nowhere. You find yourself in an ominous forest with no easy exit. Your only tools are a journal, where you record your observations, and a camera, which becomes not just a tool for recording your surroundings but also a key mechanism for interacting with the world.

The player must explore a vast space consisting of 42 main and 13 hidden locations. An interactive map helps navigate the labyrinth of gloomy landscapes. Each new location is not just a backdrop for the action, but part of a larger mystery: you gradually learn how and why this strange space came to be and what happened to those who once lived here. The game’s mechanics uniquely combine elements of text-based exploration and visual novels. Interacting with the environment is unique in that creatures, once human, communicate with you through photographs. Each photo taken isn’t just a mere record of your journey, but also a way to establish contact, decipher messages, and unravel the hints hidden in the images.

The survival system in Contra Spem Spero is complex: you’ll need to manage two health indicators, balancing your physical fitness and mental stability. As you progress, you’ll encounter a variety of puzzles that require attention and logical thinking. Each decision you make influences the narrative the game offers multiple endings, and the path to each is determined by your actions and choices.
