The 1990s vision of grand mech warfare returns in Drop Command, an action game with strategy and simulation elements from PillBugGames, released in September 2026. It is mech combat at grand scale: the player starts inside one machine and grows into a commander who builds an empire across the stars. Mechs, tanks, infantry and aircraft clash in combined arms battles on many worlds, and the drop of a heavy unit from orbit remains the loudest argument in any argument. The sandbox campaign ties these battles together, letting the player conquer territory, build forces and rise from a single pilot to an officer who commands entire battalions. The aesthetic is proudly old school, from the silhouettes of the machines to the confident tone of the war reports. The campaign respects the time of the player by keeping battles focused and readable even when dozens of units clash on the map, which is a quiet engineering achievement of its own.

The gameplay works on two connected levels. In direct combat the player pilots a mech or drives another unit into battle, feeling the weight of the machine and the difference between armor, speed and firepower. On the strategic level the same conflict becomes a question of production, deployment and timing, where battalions are assembled, supply lines are protected and drops are scheduled to hit the weakest point of the enemy. Combined arms matters: aircraft punish slow columns, infantry holds ground mechs cannot defend alone, and tanks form the backbone of any advance. Among the most interesting features are the sandbox campaign that lets each empire grow differently, the smooth switch between personal combat and command view, and the scale that turns a single skirmish into one move of a larger war. For players who grew up on the classic mech wars of that era, the game lands as a warm letter to the whole genre, and for newcomers it works as a clear entry point into large scale tactics.
