About The Game

Backrooms Code Yellow is a cooperative horror game from the studio GameMechanic that entered Early Access in September 2026. It takes the famous internet legend about endless yellow office rooms and turns it into a shared survival experience for one to six players. A team of employees is sent into the infinitely massive Backrooms to investigate the anomaly and collect data about its impossible architecture. The task sounds routine until the group realizes that the maze does not follow the laws of normal space and that something may be watching from behind the walls. The whole premise fits into one short instruction that also works as a survival manual: explore, do your job, return alive. The setting taps straight into the internet legend of endless yellow rooms and humming lights, and the game treats that legend with respect instead of turning it into a simple monster gallery.

The gameplay is organized around exploration and task completion in a sprawling maze that never repeats the same layout twice. Players split duties on the fly: some map the corridors, some measure and record data, and everyone keeps an eye on the nearest exit. The atmosphere works through silence, buzzing lamps and the constant feeling that the next corner hides something wrong. Communication is the main tool of survival, because a wanderer who strays alone quickly loses all sense of direction inside the yellow halls. Since the project lives in Early Access, the developers keep expanding it with new zones and mechanics. Among the most interesting features are the six player co op mode where the whole team shares one fate, the anomaly investigation loop that rewards careful observation, and the genuine dread of feeling small inside something endless. Communication inside the team decides more than any single pair of fast hands, because the rooms do not forgive a group that splits up without a reason, and curiosity without caution is the fastest way to disappear.
